Trumpeter 07145 1/72 Russian T-80BV MBT

The T-80 is a main battle tank designed and manufactured by the former Soviet Union. It is a development of the T-64 and entered service in 1976. It was the world's first main battle tank to be powered primarily by a gas turbine engine. The final model, the T-80U, was produced at the Omsk plant in Russia. Currently, the T-80UD and the further improved Ukrainian T-84 are in production. The T-80 and its various variants remain in service with the armies of Russia, Belarus, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, South Korea, and Ukraine.

Compared to the earlier T-80, the T-80B featured a new turret with composite armor and an improved fire control system, enabling it to fire 9M112-1 "Cobra" anti-tank missiles. It began using a 1,100-horsepower engine in 1980 and was fitted with a new main gun in 1982. The T-80BV variant, appearing from 1985 onwards, was equipped with explosive reactive armor, which increased protection against chemical energy warheads by 400 mm.
