Trumpeter 07138 1/72 Russian BTR-70 APC Late Version

The BTR-70 is an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier developed in the late 1960s as part of the GAZ-4905 project. It entered service on August 21, 1972, and was later exported to Warsaw Pact member states and other friendly nations. Designed to replace the earlier BTR-60 armored personnel carrier, it closely resembled the BTR-60PB in appearance. Improvements included thicker armor and a better tire suspension system for improved off-road capability. In other aspects, it was very similar to the BTR-60PB, but equipped with a more powerful gasoline engine, and a roof-mounted turret that housed a heavy machine gun and a PKT coaxial machine gun.
