The Montañés represents the highest level of perfection achieved by Spanish naval architecture, allowing us to compare our ships with those of the rest of the world's navies.

This ship did not carry the royal lion as a figurehead but the figure of a Montañes in gratitude to the mountaineers for their financial contribution towards its construction.

The ship was launched in El Ferrol on May 14, 1794. It was said that her properties were extraordinary whether sailing upwind, longhead, or stern-on, and that she kept her batteries out of the water longer than any other ship.

She fought on various missions, including Trafalgar, carrying 76 cannons and four carronades with howitzers mounted on the quarterdeck. On March 6, 1810, due to a violent storm, she sank off the Bay of Cádiz.
