The Ford features a completely new hull design with a larger overall size, providing expanded deck space for aircraft operations. With a total length exceeding 1,100 feet and a displacement of approximately 100,000 tons, it stands as a formidable presence on the high seas. Notably, the Ford is the first U.S. aircraft carrier to employ an Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). In contrast to traditional steam catapults, EMALS offers precise control over the takeoff speed and trajectory of aircraft, accommodating the varied requirements of different aircraft types. Furthermore, the adoption of a new aviation fuel system, including the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) and Advanced Catapult Control System (ACCS), enables more efficient fuel and ammunition transfer, reducing the need for manual handling and enhancing operational efficiency.
