Italeri 1/72 Dornier Do 217 J-1/J2 Nachtjager Model Kit

The Dornier Do 217 was a twin-engine bomber developed and deployed by the German military in World War II. The prototype made its first flight in October 1938. Development continued thereafter, and it entered service in 1941. The mass-produced version was equipped with two BMW 801A engines. In addition to the pilot, the cockpit carried four crew members: a bombardier/nose gunner, a rear gunner/radio operator, and a flight engineer/rear gunner. It was active on various fronts until the end of the war. Continuous improvements were made from the time it entered service in 1941, and various variant types were also produced. One of them was the Nachtj?ger night fighter, equipped with radar and other features in the nose. It fought valiantly to intercept Allied bombers that attacked German airspace at night.
The Do217K2 was specialized for anti-ship attacks. This aircraft operated the German-developed guided bomb "Fritz X".

The kit is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Dornier Do217 J1/J2, the night fighter version of the German Dornier Do217 from World War II. The twin-engine aircraft faithfully reproduces the distinctive nose design and slim fuselage shape with a finished length of 254mm. The cockpit, surrounded by a uniquely designed glass area, also reproduces the interior, including the crew seats and control stick, resulting in a mechanical finish. Furthermore, the details of the landing gear and other parts should not be overlooked. And the radar antenna, a feature of night fighter aircraft, is reproduced in the nose. The radar parts delicately express the appearance of the aircraft. This kit includes masking sheets for convenient painting of the canopy frame. The markings included are, of course, German military markings.
