First to Fight 1/72 scale kit of the Polish Ursus Type A truck in early version.

The Ursus Type A was one of Poland’s earliest domestically produced trucks, marking an important step in the country’s industrial and automotive development during the interwar period.

Built in the 1920s by the Ursus factory, this rugged and dependable vehicle was designed to meet both civilian and military needs at a time when Poland was striving to strengthen its infrastructure and self-sufficiency.

Based on Italian Fiat designs and produced under licence, the Ursus Type A combined proven engineering with local manufacturing.

It featured a simple yet durable construction, powered by a petrol engine that provided reliable performance on the often poor and uneven roads of the era. Its solid chassis and leaf-spring suspension allowed it to carry heavy loads, making it well-suited for transport duties across Poland’s varied terrain.

The truck was widely used by the Polish Army, where it served as a general-purpose transport vehicle for troops, equipment, and supplies.

Its versatility also made it valuable in civilian roles, supporting agriculture, industry, and logistics during a period of rapid national rebuilding.

Although not as advanced as later military vehicles, the Ursus Type A was notable for its reliability and ease of maintenance—key qualities in a time when access to spare parts and technical support could be limited.

It played a vital role in helping to modernise Poland’s transport capabilities during the interwar years.

Today, the Ursus Type A stands as a symbol of early Polish engineering ambition and resilience, representing the foundations of a domestic automotive industry that would continue to grow in the decades that followed.
