Our award-winning range of steam locomotives continues to expand and set new standards of detail and accuracy with every new release. To ensure we continue to meet – and indeed exceed – our customer’s expectations, we are continually reviewing our range to see where we can upgrade our products with additional detail or operating features.

The J72 class 0-6-0 locomotive has been a stalwart of our range right from the start of Bachmann Branchline. We are taking the opportunity to completely re-tool the J72, incorporating many details that were omitted from the original model and also providing options to produce the earlier variants from the NER that were not possible before. DCC sound will be a new feature for the J72, together with “Firebox Glow” which will operate under both analogue and DCC. The V2 class 2-6-2 is another long-lived model in our range that will benefit from this upgrade strategy. A completely new locomotive and tender tooling is being produced, together with an upgraded chassis to incorporate the latest DCC innovations.

2018 sees the culmination of our nation’s centenary commemorations of World War 1. We are proud to produce a number of locomotives with significant WW1 associations and for the first time, we are offering the original design of Railway Operating Division 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotive. Numbered appropriately as “1918”, the War Department Black livery is partnered by loco number 2394 in LNWR black livery.

A number of railway companies named locomotives in commemoration of significant WW1 battles and we are delighted to include two such locomotives in this year’s range. The D11/1 class “Somme” was one of six D11’s to carry the names of WW1 battlefields. Finally withdrawn in 1960, we are producing 62667 in the BR Lined Black Early Emblem livery of the early 1950’s. Resplendent in the GCR’s fully lined green and maroon livery, class 11F “Improved Director” class number 502 “Zeebrugge” makes a handsome stablemate to its older BR liveried brother.

Taking pride of place on the front cover of this year’s catalogue is the LBSCR H1 “Atlantic” class 4-4-2 “La France”, which was named in honour of the French President’s visit to England in 1913. Another “Atlantic” making its main range debut this year is the GNR C1 class 4-4-2. Available in either the stunning GNR fully lined green livery, or the equally attractive LNER lined green of the 1930’s, they are truly handsome examples of the class.
