In July 1943, two heavy tank battalions (503rd and 505th) took part in Operation Citadel resulting in the Battle of Kursk with one battalion each on the northern (505th) and southern (503rd) flanks of the Kursk salient the operation was designed to encircle. However, the operation failed and the Germans were again put on the defensive. The resulting withdrawal led to the loss of many broken-down Tigers which were left un-recovered with battalions unable to do required maintenance or repairs.

This new model kit of the Tiger I early type from Takom features a fully reproduced interior, including the engine room and the turret. Clear parts are included for the turret top plate and the upper hull surface so you can admire the interior even after the kit is finished; the tracks are link-and-length type. The main hatch can be built opened or closed, and two types of shields are included. Photo-etched parts, a metal barrel, and decals for four versions are also included.
