The 1S12 long-range radar, also known as "Long Orbit" by NATO, is a UHF-band three-coordinate radar developed during the Soviet era.

The P-40 radar was developed starting in 1960, completed state acceptance testing in 1962, and finally entered service with the Soviet Air Defense Forces in 1963.

In 1965, when the P-40 was used as the target search radar for the 2 K11 Krug mobile air defense system, it was designated 1S12. The main difference between the P-40 and 1S12 was the 1S62 "code system," with a data link antenna mounted on the right front side of the chassis for exchanging and sharing data between the 1S12 and 1S32 radars.

Between 1966 and 1968, these radars underwent upgrades, with the addition of numerous devices. Later, between 1969 and 1970, in addition to improved reliability, the radar's search range was also increased.
