The construction of the former Soviet Navy's "Project 1164" missile cruiser began in 1976. The first ship of this class was launched in Dock 445 in 1979 and entered service in the then Soviet Navy in 1983 under the name of "Slava". After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, "Slava" re-entered the Russian Navy in 2000 after a major overhaul. Her ship name was changed to "Moscow" and her hull number was changed to "121". "Moscow" has been designated as the flagship of the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet to this day. A total of 4 Slava-class cruisers were launched. The second ship "Ustinov" entered service in the former Soviet Navy's Northern Fleet in 1986, when her hull number was "070". The third ship entered service in the Pacific Fleet of the former Soviet Navy in 1989, when it was named "Ukraine". In the mid-1990s, her name was changed to "Varyag" and her hull number was changed to "011". The fourth and final ship of the Slava class is currently under construction in Ukraine, and her original name was "Ukraine".
