The USS Pittsburg was a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser named after Pittsburgh City, Pennsylvania, built by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation's Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts; it was laid down on February 3rd, 1943, and launched on February 22nd, 1944. The cruiser could yield speeds up to 38mph (33 knots). Commissioned on October 10th, 1944, Pittsburg arrived in the Pacific Theater in January 1945, joining the legendary Fast Carrier Task Force 58. Pittsburg served with distinction during the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. This kit faithfully recreates the USS Pittsburg CA-72 from 1944 in 1/700 scale.
