Trumpeter 01653 1/72 Lockheed S-3 Viking

The Lockheed S-3B Viking was a critical, carrier-based twin-engine jet aircraft that served the U.S. Navy for over three decades, initially excelling in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) role. After the Cold War, the S-3B upgrade refocused its mission, transforming it into a versatile platform for Anti-Surface Warfare, surveillance, and becoming the carrier battle group's primary aerial refueling tanker. Powered by two General Electric TF34 turbofan engines, the aircraft was nicknamed the "Hoover" for its distinctive sound and was renowned for its long range and excellent endurance. It possessed a sophisticated avionics suite, including a surface search radar and infrared sensors, and could carry a substantial payload of missiles and torpedoes in its internal weapons bay. Known as the "Swiss Army Knife of Naval Aviation," the S-3B was officially retired from U.S. Navy fleet service in 2009.
