Hojo Railway is a third-sector railway that connects Ao and Hojo-machi in Hyogo Prefecture, and was established in April 1985 as a result of conversion from the Japanese National Railways Hojo Line. The

Kiha 40-535 series was a former JR (Japanese National Railways) diesel car that was introduced to Hojo Railway to increase transportation capacity. It

was delivered to Hojo Railway in December 2021, and preparations have been underway since then to start operation, with commercial operation beginning on March 13, 2022.
