Heinkel He 112 was a German fighter from the first half of the 1930s, which was competing for a government contract for a new fighter aircraft with a closed cabin and retractable landing gear. She was defeated by Messerschmitt Bf 109. In the Luftwaffe did not see major expansion, but was exported to Hungary, Romania, Japan and Austria. The number of built machines did not exceed 100 pieces.

In 1933, the RLM (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) issued a request for a new fighter to replace the older Heinkel He 51 and Arado Ar 68 biplanes. Proposals were submitted by Arado, Focke-Wulf, Heinkel and Messerschmitt. The prototype Heinkel He 112 was tested in competition with three other aircraft in Travemünde in October 1935 and together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109 received an order for 10 aircraft. The prototype, powered by a Rolls-Royce KestrelV engine, with an output of 518kW, was followed by two other machines with a reduced wingspan and a weaker Junkers Jumo 210C engine with an output of 447kW. The fourth prototype with a new, elliptical wing, was operationally tested at the Condor Legion in Spain in 1936, and was exhibited at the Zurich Air Show in 1937. In Spain, they flew civilian pilots and was rated better than the Bf 109C.
