One clamp, three sets of jaws

Each clamp works with three head systems, and swapping between them takes a second: the heads clip on and off the jaw tips. That is the difference between this set and an ordinary spring clamp, which can only ever do the one thing its jaws were molded for.

The right-angle heads work in pairs — one on each jaw of the same clamp. Their slot runs all the way through, so strips of different thicknesses still seat properly, and a single clamp holds two parts square to each other or crossing each other. The quarter-circle heads work four at a time, two clamps facing one another, closing a ring around the intersection so the crossing cannot shift while the glue sets.

Why the jaw is long and rounded

Most spring clamps taper to a short closed tip. That is fine on a flat bench and useless on a model that is already half built: the tip has nowhere to go once a hull carries planks, once a bulkhead stands, once one side of a coach is glued.

This jaw is elongated and rounded, 132 mm (5.2 in) overall with 76 mm (3 in) of useful gripping length and an opening up to 80 mm (3.15 in). The reach is the point of the shape — the clamp goes around what is in the way and still closes on the joint that matters.

The heads are a softer plastic than the black ABS body, so they do not dent or mark limewood, thin plywood, styrene or a surface that has already been sanded and painted. The spring is set to match: firm enough that the clamp will not jump off the joint, soft enough that it leaves nothing behind.

How to use them

Pick the heads for the joint: standard for a plain hold, right-angle for a square corner or a cross, quarter-circle for a centered crossing. Clip them onto the jaw tips. Open the clamp, seat the parts in the slot, release. For a crossing, fit the four quadrants into a ring and bring both clamps in opposite each other. Leave it alone until the adhesive has set, then swap heads for the next joint.

Dry-fit before you glue. A joint that is not square before the clamp goes on will not be square after it comes off — the clamp holds a position, it does not correct one.

Not a toy. Keep out of reach of young children. Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Which heads for which joint

Three systems, three geometries. The heads clip on and off the jaw tips, so one clamp covers all three without leaving the bench.
