The 500 Series is a rolling stock developed exclusively by JR West for the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen.

Characterized by a sharp, sleek design reminiscent of an aircraft, it traveled at 300 km/h, the fastest speed in the world at the time. It retired from service as the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi in 2010 and is now operating as the "Kodama" train, stopping at every station on the Sanyo Shinkansen.
