Background information

Between 1939 and 1944, approximately 2,500 examples of the heavy 18-ton (Famo) tractor were built. Equipped with a 250 hp Maybach engine, this vehicle was indispensable for recovering damaged tanks or – as depicted in this kit – moving the heaviest field artillery. The 17 cm gun (range up to 28 km) and the 21 cm mortar were feared precision weapons. To absorb their enormous recoil energy, they had to be elaborately stabilized with ground anchors in combat – a detail that you can accurately reproduce in this model.
