Build a classic Cold War-era U.S. Navy destroyer with the U.S.S. Forrest Sherman plastic model kit from Atlantis Models. This highly detailed ship kit is molded in gray and measures approximately 16 inches long when complete.

Produced in 1:320 scale, this kit includes decal options for three famous Forrest Sherman-class destroyers: U.S.S. Forrest Sherman, U.S.S. Turner Joy, and U.S.S. Edson. A flag sheet is also included, giving builders additional display detail for a finished naval model.

The Forrest Sherman-class destroyers represented the final generation of U.S. Navy “all-gun” destroyers before guided missiles became standard fleet weapons. Sleek, fast, and powerful, these ships were designed for rapid response, fleet escort duty, anti-aircraft defense, anti-submarine operations, and surface combat.

The lead ship, U.S.S. Forrest Sherman DD-931, was built by Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. She was launched on February 5, 1955, and commissioned on November 9, 1955. Measuring over 418 feet long, she was capable of speeds up to 35 knots and carried a strong armament of 5-inch guns, 3-inch guns, torpedo tubes, and anti-submarine weapons.

U.S.S. Forrest Sherman served during an important period in U.S. naval history. In 1958, she patrolled the eastern Mediterranean before joining the 7th Fleet near Taiwan during tensions around Quemoy and Matsu. She later completed a cruise around the world. In 1959, Forrest Sherman took part in celebrations for the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway and served as escort to the Royal Yacht HMS Britannia, carrying President Eisenhower and Queen Elizabeth II during a naval review.

Named for Admiral Forrest Sherman, who commanded the aircraft carrier Wasp during World War II and later served as Chief of Naval Operations, this destroyer represents the strength, speed, and versatility of the postwar U.S. Navy.

The destroyer has long been one of the Navy’s most versatile and dependable ships. Fast, heavily armed, and ready for action, the Forrest Sherman-class carried that proud tradition into the modern age.

Build this classic U.S. Navy destroyer and add an important piece of American naval history to your collection.
