The "Sonderkraftfahrzeug 9" (Famo) was the workhorse for the Wehrmacht's heaviest loads. With its 250 hp engine, it was primarily used for recovering tanks and towing the heaviest artillery pieces. Around 2,500 were manufactured between 1939 and 1944. The guns that could be combined with it formed the backbone of the heavy artillery: the 17 cm cannon could engage targets at a range of up to 28 kilometers, while the mortar was responsible for destroying fortifications.
