The Yak-9 was the main fighter of the Soviet Air Force developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau during World War II, and although it was small, it carried a powerful engine and armaments. The Yak-9D was a long-range fighter with an additional wing fuel tank; it made its maiden flight in 1943.
