The Arado Ar 199 was a floatplane built by Arado Flugzeugwerke. It was a low-wing aircraft designed in 1938 to be launched from a catapult and operated over water. The enclosed cockpit had two side-by-side seats for an instructor and student, and a third aft seat for a training navigator or radio operator.

In 1938, the Technical Office of Germany requested a modern naval training aircraft. The Arado Ar 199 was a design for flight training of complete seaplane crews. The machine resembled the Ar 196, but was based on the Ar 79 and Ar 96, but was all-metal and capable of catapults. The Ar 199 possessed two all-metal floats that ended in a flat stage. 31 Arado 199s were built, 5 prototypes and 26 production machines. Originally, according to schedule RLM No. 10 of 1 January 1939, 65 machines were required. The pre-series consisted of 26 machines (WNr.001-026), the last 4 were made in France. They were mainly used in rescue. The series was canceled because the need for fighter aircraft was paramount.
