The iconic Space Shuttle and the powerful Boeing 747 that carried it.

Features an amazing detail: above the blue stripe on the 747 (N905NA version), you'll find multiple pilot names and flight marks for active duty! Includes decals for Endeavour, Enterprise, Discovery, Atlantis, etc., as well as decals for 747s bearing NASA's new logo numbered N905NA and N911NA, and the old NASA logo 905 and 911. A display stand is included as well.

Space Shuttle orbiters normally return to their home launching base at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida after completing their missions, but occasionally, bad weather or other conditions render the Florida base inaccessible, forcing the Shuttle to land at other locations. In such a case, the Shuttle must somehow be returned to Kennedy Space Center, and it is for this purpose that NASA began developing its first Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), serial number N905NA, on a converted Boeing 747-100 airframe in 1976. The design featured mounting struts on the top of the SCA' s fuselage to carry the Shuttle, as well as enlarged horizontal tail surfaces with added vertical stabilisers for better flight performance.

A second SCA, serial number N911NA, was built from a converted 747 originally
bought from Japan in 1988. NASA had been operating a two plane SCA fleet since N911NA came online in 1990. The aircraft could be visually distinguished from one another by differences in their upper deck window configurations: while N911NA had five upper deck windows, N905NA had only two.

High quality, precision plastic model kit. Paint and glue not included. Requires assembly and painting. For intermediate to advanced skill modellers.
