Hasegawa 1/350 IJN Destroyer Shimakaze "Late Type"

Shimakaze was literally one of a kind. This fast, heavily armed destroyer was Japan's test bed for a new type of propulsion system. Its steam turbine engines propelled it to 47 mph in test runs despite it carrying twice the guns and more sophisticated torpedoes than any other destroyer running. Japan had originally wanted to launch sixteen of these vessels, but the realities of war and limited production kept Shimakaze in a class all by herself.

This kit recreates the Shimakaze, a high-speed destroyer boasting the world's fastest speed of 40 knots at the time and equipped with three quintuple torpedo tubes, as it appeared in its final configuration in November 1944.

New parts have been added to represent the enhanced armament, including
the triple 25mm machine guns added near the aft torpedo tubes, the Type 13 radar, and the additional single 25mm machine guns.

This kit pursues precision as a scale model while also featuring a new style of parts division that emphasizes accurate color reproduction through the use of colored parts. It achieves a quality that provides great satisfaction even when assembled without painting.
