The F-104 series fighter jets are known as the world's first interceptor fighter jets that broke the Mach 2 barrier.

Upon its first flight in February 1954, the prototype XF-104 was nicknamed the "man on board missile," and in May 1958 it recorded a world speed of 2,259 km/h, garnering attention as the fastest fighter aircraft in the world at the time.
