Hobby Master 1/72 F-111F Aardvark 72-1448 48th TFW CO August 1991

In August 1991, F-111F Aardvarks of the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing were based at RAF Lakenheath following their successful combat service during Operation Desert Storm earlier that year. The F-111F combined long range strike capability with terrain following radar and precision guided weapons, making it one of the USAF's premier attack aircraft. Pilots continued intensive training in low level penetration, night attack, and precision strike missions while maintaining NATO readiness. The wing's performance during Desert Storm had demonstrated the aircraft's effectiveness against heavily defended targets. The F-111F remained a key component of US airpower in Europe until its retirement in 1996.
