In the 1960s, Israel imported a number of British Centurion tanks in anticipation of it being a first-generation tank for them, but they found it to be undergunned and unsuitable for operation in the Israeli environment.
The Centurions were heavily modified into an essentially new tank known as the Sh'ot; the Sh'ot participated in the Six-Day War, and further modification resulted in the Sh'ot Kal, which had a diesel engine and a more powerful transmission.
