History of The BF109 Fighter Aircraft: Truly Modern For Its Time

The German World War II  fighter aircraft Messerschmitt Bf 109 was designed in the early 1930s by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BF). It became the most produced German fighter aircraft, with nearly 34,000 units manufactured , and was one of the first truly modern aircraft of its time due to its all-metal monocoque , enclosed cockpit, and retractable landing gear.

As a curious historical fact, it participated in the Spanish Civil War to test its various components and characteristics, but naturally, it was during the Second World War that it became a fundamental part of the Luftwaffe . It remained in service until the development of the first jet engines for aircraft, until the end of the aforementioned war.

What exactly were its functions ? Initially designed as an interceptor , it eventually served as a bomber escort , fighter-bomber, day and night fighter, ground attack aircraft, and finally, a reconnaissance aircraft. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 achieved over 900 victories , primarily as part of Jagdgeschwader 52.

Aimed at  advanced modelers , the   1:16  scale BF109G model  features a tab system that allows for assembly of the aircraft's structure with minimal glue . The metal parts for its construction are available as both photo-etched stainless steel sheets and die-cast components.

It's a very robust, large, and sturdy model , resembling the aircraft that flew the skies back in the 1930s and 40s. It also features moving parts , such as its manually retractable landing gear, opening cockpit canopy, illuminated instrument panel, and movable ailerons, flaps, and tail.

To the delight of modelers, the 1:16 scale Messerschmitt BF109 model kit  includes… two bonus gifts ! A  methacrylate display stand  with an engraved design for perfectly showcasing the scale model, and surprisingly, an electronics kit with  a low-speed motor  that powers the propeller and  LED position lights  on the wings and tail, as well as on the instrument panel, which is recreated with all its details! Three AAA batteries are required for this movement and lighting; these are not included in the kit.
