Historical note: The M-72 motorcycle was developed in the USSR by adapting to the domestic production of the German BMW R71 in 1941. Mass production was launched at the Moscow Motorcycle Plant (MM3), and later also in Leningrad at the Krasny Oktyabr plant, and since February 1942 - in Irbit.
The motorcycle was intended exclusively for the army, so bags for ammunition, devices for fixing the Degtyarev DP light machine gun were installed on it. In small numbers, the troops also received modifications with an 82-mm mortar installed instead of the sidecar body. This option of transporting a mortar seriously increased the mobility of mortar units.
