The Type 3 assault gun was a self-propelled assault gun used by the German army during World War II. It had a simpler structure than ordinary steering turret tanks, so Germany produced a large number of Type 3 assault guns to support frontline troops. Germany proposed in 1936 the development of an infantry fire support armored vehicle equipped with a 75mm or larger caliber gun. This self-propelled assault gun was converted into a self-propelled assault gun using an existing Panzer III tank chassis. It was finalized through experiments in 1940. Due to differences in details, it was divided into several models: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. The AE type is equipped with a 75mm StuK L/24 short-barreled gun. The F and G types are equipped with more powerful long-barreled artillery.
