The Spitfire Mk. V took to the skies in 1941. The aircraft was produced more than any other Spitfire variant and is regarded as outshining the Bf-109 and dominating the skies over Europe until the arrival of the Fw-190. The Mk. V was the staple fighter of the RAF through the summer of 1942, with variants introducing larger engines, armament, and wing types. Including all variants, 20,351 Mk. Vs were produced. This 1/48 scale die-cast metal model from HobbyMaster depicts the Spitfire MK. Vb GN-H, as flown by Robert Buck McNair of RCAF, as part of 249 Gold Coast RAF Squadron, stationed at Malta, around March 1942.
