The Medium Tank M3 was an American medium tank used during World War II. In Britain, the tank was called by two names based on the turret configuration and crew size. The M3 had good firepower and adequate armor, but had serious drawbacks in its general design, including a high silhouette, a sponson mount of the main gun and poor off-road performance.The M3A1 is the cast hull version of this unique tank.
The term CDL stands for "Canal Defence Light" which was an early attempt by the Allies to mount a capable night-fighting spotlight on armoured vehicles. It saw limited use and effectivity during the war.
