The M46 Patton medium tank is the ancestor of the Patton series, consisting of the M47, M48 and M60; they were the main battle tanks of the U.S. Army until the official adoption of the M1 Abrams in 1980. The quarter-ton utility truck is a small four-wheel-drive vehicle that was developed at the request of the U.S. Army in 1940, and was put into combat in 1941. More than 640,000 units were produced during the war, making it a very important vehicle used by the U.S. military, and often cited as the weapon that led to victory in World War II.
