Affectionately known as the Warthog the A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF is E-flite's replica of the USAF’s Close Air Support stalwart. Highest performing E-flite hog yet and easy to fly with SAFE Select technology engaged.
Due to its aggressive look, the USAF’s A-10 Thunderbolt II was affectionately given the nickname of the Warthog. The A-10 was the primary Close Air Support aircraft for ground forces in a number of theatres of conflict. Its ability to take fire and survive while delivering a highly accurate weapons capability quickly gained it the respect of enemy and allied alike. The painted teeth nose of the A-10 Thunderbolt II was fitted with the 30mm GAU-8 Gatling gun that could deliver 30 rounds per second of armour-piercing incendiary rounds. This iconic aircraft has been faithfully reproduced in scale form in the E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF. Delivering unlimited vertical performance and an impressive top speed the A-10 also features superb handling with both SAFE Select and AS3X technologies working with the pilot to make flying easier.
The E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II features an all-new design with twin 64mm 11-blade fans powered by powerful brushless motors that have been paired with 40A ESCs. These are wired to a 6S 3200-4000mAh LiPo battery and can get this RC fighter jet up to speeds of 160kmh in level flight. With near-on instant throttle response, class-leading flight times and brilliant vertical performance the E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF will not disappoint. When you have this modern-day RC warbird cranked up on a fly-by you will hear the awesome sound it produces that almost replicates that of a real turbine engine. The A-10 has ball-link equipped linkages on all nine of its factory-installed digital servos that ensure top of the line control and precision at every speed.
The fully moulded EPO fuselage construction enables E-flite to replicate a couple of things – the scale shapes and details of the Warthog’s full-scale counterpart in a lightweight form. Plus it is also a nod to the A-10 Thunderbolt II’s renowned ability to take punishment from ground fire. In other words, it will handle a few rough landings in its stride. The list of functional features on the E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF is extensive with operational flaps, twin rudders, LED navigation lights and electric retracts with shock-absorbing struts so you can take off and land on a variety of surfaces. Detailed scale features include moulded in panel lines, removable ordnance, detailed cockpit with a pilot figure and more. Giving you’re A-10 that real battlefield look is the factory finished three-tone grey ‘Flipper’ camouflage trim scheme that looks fantastic in the air or on the ground. The E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF comes in a very manageable size so construction, storage and transport are that much easier.
Spektrum Exclusive Technologies
For the first time ever, E-flite have equipped the A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF with Spektrum SAFE Select and AS3X technologies. The Spektrum DSMX receiver fitted in the A-10 Thunderbolt features the AS3X (Artificial Stabilization 3 aXis) system that nullifies the effects of turbulence and wind by working behind the scenes to provide increased precision and stability when your RC jet experiences non-optimal flying conditions.
SAFE Select is optional technology that gives the E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF an extra margin of safety by enabling features that will ensure your flight envelope is limited to keep you out of trouble until you are a better flyer or have familiarized yourself with the controls. No programming is required to engage SAFE Select as it is built into the receiver. You just need to follow the manual directions and change up the binding sequence to switch it on.
What’s in the Box?
As the primary Close Air Support aircraft of the U.S. Air Force, the A-10 Thunderbolt II is often affectionately called the “Warthog” due to its aggressive look, and because it’s a highly accurate and survivable weapons-delivery platform. The nose — often decorated with painted teeth — is equipped with a GAU-8 Avenger 30mm Gatling gun that unleashes the destructive bite of armor-piercing incendiary rounds. The E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF is a scale replica of the iconic aircraft that served with distinction in operations Desert Storm, Desert Fox, Enduring Freedom and others. It delivers excellent top speed and unlimited vertical performance, while also featuring fantastic handling and being the easiest to fly hog yet when it’s equipped with exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies (BNF® Basic version only).
A PRACTICAL HIGH-PERFORMANCE TWIN
Featuring an all-new design, the E-flite® A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 64mm EDF (electric ducted fan) jet is the highest-performance and best-handling model of the popular U.S. Air Force aircraft yet. Its twin 11-blade, 64mm fans are powered by high-RPM brushless motors that are paired with 40A ESCs wired to use a single 6S 3200–4000mAh battery. This perfectly engineered power system produces excellent top speed — up to 100+ MPH in level flight — and unlimited vertical performance while also delivering class-leading flight times. The separate BEC and nine factory-installed digital servos with ball-link equipped linkages deliver precise and reliable control. A long list of functional features includes LED navigation lights, operational flaps, twin rudders and electric retracts with shock-absorbing struts so you can fly from a variety of surfaces, including grass fields. And details including removable ordnance, moulded in panel lines, a cockpit with a pilot figure and more add to the incredible scale looks. Plus it arrives factory-finished in the rare “Flipper” three-tone gray camouflage trim scheme that looks great on the ground and in the air. And it all adds up to deliver a “Hog” that’s practically sized so it’s easier to store and transport while also offering an unmatched flying experience you’ll enjoy flight after flight!
Exclusive Technologies (applies to BNF Basic version only)
This is the first high-performance A-10 Thunderbolt II model equipped with both exclusive Spektrum® AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence to deliver a locked-in feel that makes it seem like you're flying a much larger airplane. Optional-use SAFE Select offers pitch and bank angle limits along with automatic self-levelling that can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch, making this the easiest to fly A-10 yet! And if you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, simply bind the receiver normally and only AS3X will be active.
The twin 11-blade 64mm fans, high-RPM brushless motors and 40-amp ESCs combine with your 6S 3200–4000mAh 30+C LiPo battery to deliver unlimited vertical performance and a fantastic speed range, including top speeds up to 100+ MPH in level flight, with virtually instantaneous throttle response. This power system also delivers better performance and longer flight times than the 4S-compatible power systems used in similar class models. But what makes the experience truly rewarding is the fantastic sound it produces – it's almost like a real turbine engine.
The A-10 twin 64mm EDF features an accurate outline and an abundance of scale details including moulded-in panel lines and hatches, gun detail, and removable ordnance – more details than you typically find on similar class and smaller models.
Factory-installed LED navigation lights, operational flaps and twin rudders are functional features that take your experience to another level.
The factory-installed electric retracts are equipped with durable metal components including shock-absorbing struts that make it possible to fly from a wider variety of surfaces including paved runways and even grass.
Construction with fully-moulded EPO material makes it possible to replicate complex detail and shapes in a lightweight yet durable form. The result is an outstanding scale appearance that's easy to maintain and delivers the best possible flight experience, plus the factory-installed servos with ball-link equipped linkages deliver crisp and precise control at every speed.
The one-piece, composite-reinforced wing is easy to install and remove for storage and transport thanks to the innovative hands-free connection system. And the convenient top-mounted hatch makes it quick and easy to install and remove batteries.
Unique Trim Scheme
The factory-applied paint and decal finish is inspired by the rare “Flipper” three-tone gray camouflage that was used on some A-10 aircraft in the early ’90s and makes for a model you'll be proud to show off everywhere you go.
Bind-N-Fly® Completion Level Advantage
Already own a Spektrum™ transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) aircraft make getting into the air quickly and with the best control experience possible easier than ever. They come out of the box with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly and fly!
This Bind-N-Fly Basic model is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver featuring AS3X® (Artificial Stabilization–3-aXis) technology that works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence so you enjoy a sense of stability and precision that makes it feel like you're flying a much larger, expertly tuned aircraft.
If this is your first model of its type, or you want an extra margin of safety while familiarizing yourself with the airplane, you can enable the optional-use SAFE® Select flight envelope protection technology built into the receiver. No programming is required. Simply change up the binding sequence as directed in the manual.
Pitch and Bank Angle Limits
These envelope limits keep the airplane from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles.
The airplane instantly returns to and holds level flight when the sticks are released and in the centre position. It’s also helpful for keeping the wings level during takeoffs/launches and landings.
Easy Switch Assignment—No Complex Programming Required
The simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds.
If you don’t want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X receiver.
