One solution was the Flakpanzer IV/3.7cm Flak, a vehicle nicknamed Ostwind, or “East Wind” by the Germans. In August 1944 an order was placed for 100 Ostwind vehicles, with this vehicle featuring a more capable 3.7cm FlaK43 cannon mounted inside a hexagonal turret. The turret was open-topped to allow fumes to dissipate. The turret rotated 360 , and the quick-firing gun could be used with equal devastation against both air and ground targets. A crew of six operated the 25-tonne Ostwind, and a total of 43 such weapons were produced mostly on rebuilt Panzer IV tank chassis.

Dragon has produced a fantastic 1/35 scale plastic kit of the Flakpanzer IV Ostwind. Owing to the turret being open-topped, all the relevant details on the gun and inside the turret are well represented. The cannon is particularly well defined and the barrel can be posed in any one of several different angles depending on whether the modeler has an aerial or ground target in view. The hull also carries a readymade Zimmerit coating that is masterfully represented. Inside the box, modelers will find many slide-molded plastic components. This latest kit from Dragon allows modelers to create the Flakpanzer IV Ostwind that was used by Flugabwehrzug (antiaircraft platoons) to protect units from marauding aircraft late in the war.

Features

Slide-molded one-piece gun barrel w/hollow muzzle

Detailed photo-etched catcher for spent shells

Gun sight cover can be assembled open/closed

2-directional slide-molded turret authentically produced

Extra-thin top edge on turret armor

Turret ring accurately produced

Gun machine platform realistically produced

Newly designed fenders w/delicate on both top and bottom surface

One-piece lower hull made from slide molds

Hull bottom has full and correct details

One-piece DS tracks produced

Injection-molded om-vehicle tools w/clasps

Final-drive housing w/separate armored cover

Sprocket wheels w/breathtaking detail and multiple delicate parts

Idler wheels w/correctly detailed parts

Road wheels and suspension exhibit extreme detail

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/8617/3749/files/dragon-1-35-3-7cm-flak-43-flakpanzer-iv-ostwind-with-zimmeritt-DR6746.jpg?v=1782174710
dragon-7241-1-72-jagdpanther-early-w-zimmerit-plastic-model-kit
Dragon 7241 1/72 Jagdpanther Early with Zimmerit

The Jagdpanther ("Hunting Panther") was a tank destroyer built by Germany during World War II; it had a fixed gun (i.e. no turret) and was based on the chassis of the Panther tank. Now one of the most exciting ever is on offer – a Space Shuttle attached to two giant Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB)! From 1981 to 2011, the Space Shuttle was a permanent fixture in the annals of space exploration. The public got used to NASA’s fleet of five manned space vehicles – Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour – regularly blasting into space, and they also suffered collective shock when two Shuttles were lost in horrific accidents. In its 30-year operational lifespan, the Space Shuttle fleet performed 135 missions. These included launching the Hubble Space Telescope, numerous satellites, constructing and servicing the International Space Station, and conducting experiments. The SRBs were required to thrust the Orbiter Vehicle (OV) into space, and they were jettisoned before reaching orbit. The Shuttle’s retirement officially took place from March-July 2011, with Atlantis the last craft to fly a mission.

This 1/144 scale item is searing hot! Fought by attacking German units and Russian defenders arrayed in depth, the gargantuan battle involved nearly 3,000 German tanks and more than 5,000 Russian ones. Germany kicked off Operation Zitadelle in the late summer of 1943, on 5 July. With massive losses on both sides, it was the last strategic offensive that Germany was able to launch on the Eastern Front. Dragon has a series of new and re-released kits commemorating that major battle on the way, but one of the most remarkable is a new item of a 1/35 Tiger I. What is special about this phenomenal kit is that it represents the Tiger I Early variant used by the famous German tank ace Michael Wittman. At the time of the Kursk fighting, Wittmann was serving in 13./Panzer Regiment 1, and Tiger Is were among the most lethal tank of the battle.

This new 1/35 scale release depicts a Tiger I Early-Production tank, and modelers can be assured of user-friendly assembly and enhanced detail. Wittmann led his platoon at Prokhorovka with this tank, and by the time the battle was over, his crew had destroyed about 30 Russian tanks and 28 anti-tank guns. With this high-quality model, modelers can now recreate a scene from that massive armored clash at Kursk.

Includes

Plastic sprues with parts of the model kit

Decal sheet

Photoetched detail parts

Assembly instructions with painting and marking diagrams

Dragon has already released a 1/35 scale kit of the American M4 Mortar Carrier, and has now backed it up with a new kit of its successor, the M21 Mortar Motor Carriage. The M21 had a number of improvements over the M4, chief of which was the vehicle being based on the longer M3 halftrack chassis. This extended length allowed the mounted mortar to fire towards the front (rather than rearwards as on the M4), and permitted the .50-cal machine gun to be mounted in a pedestal near the rear of the vehicle. The main armament of the M21 halftrack was obviously the M1 81mm mortar, which was supplied with 97 rounds. Another distinctive feature of the M21 was the fitting of stowage racks along the external sides of the fighting compartment. The M21 Mortar Carrier was used by both US and Free French forces during WWII.

Dragon’s new 1/35 scale M21 kit is well appointed. The new rear door on the hull can be posed open or closed, while the fighting compartment itself is brand new to replicate the M21’s unique configuration. The whole of the open-topped fighting compartment is fully detailed, including a brand new M1 mortar with aluminum tube. The internal ammo racks are filled with newly tooled mortar rounds ready for firing. On the outside of the fighting compartment are brand new stowage racks, and here Dragon has come up with a neat solution. The external mine racks come as a pre-molded option with all the mines in place, or alternatively, a full set of individual mines can be affixed as chosen by the modeler. These separate mines come with photo-etched parts to provide heightened detail. To ensure this M21 is ready for action, Dragon also throws in a bonus driver figure. As can be seen, Dragon’s M21 has an exhaustive set of specifications that allow modelers to create a model full of individual flair!

Features

Newly tooled Mortar ammo in rack

New arrangement of M21 fighting compartment cabin w/interior details

MG w/hollow muzzle produced by slide molds

Accurate rubber track modeled w/center guide band

Full drive train assembly complete w/engine transmission, differential housing and suspension units

One-piece chassis frame w/correct details

Rear luggage rack can be assembled in folded or open mode

New rear door can be assembled open or closed

81mm mortar gun barrel made from aluminum metal

Rear panel w/crisp details

Side armor peculiar to M21

Radio w/crisp detail

Super-detailed multi-direction slide-molded sprocket wheels

Bonus driver

New ladder is finely reproduced for M21

Individual mines w/photo-etched parts

External mine rack for M21

Optional one-piece external mine rack (w/mines inside)

Multi-direction slide-molded idler wheels are superbly reproduced

Tires intentionally shaped to mimic bulging caused by a heavy load

Road wheels w/crisp details

Slide-molded wheel couplings

Hubcaps w/superb details

Bogie assembly w/internal spring detail

Differential housing comes w/bolt and rib details

Steering mechanism in full detail

Spring suspension is reproduced well

Engine complete w/radiator and oil sump

Headlights w/corresponding light guards

Winch assembly especially for M21

Armored front grill w/accurate bolt details can be modeled in two modes: bonus individual photo-etched slats available for the open mode

Engine hood w/detailed bolt and hinges

Front window armor can be assembled open/closed; includes finely molded struts

Front windshield made w/clear parts

Photo-etched windshield wipers in fine details

Photo-etched visors for armored window covers

Detailed dashboard instrument panel

Delicate steering wheel and controls

Top half of cab doors can be assembled in swing-down position

Jerry cans w/delicate strap details

One-piece exhaust and muffler

Rear tow hook is fully detailed

Rear mud flaps made from photo-etched parts

Sharply reproduced on-vehicle tools

Dragon 7026 U.S.S.
