The set includes F4F-4 Wildcat and P-400/P-39D Airacobra kits with 3D-printed resin accessories.

"Cactus" was the code name for the US air base on Guadalcanal, an island that faced heavy fights in the second half of 1942. The combined forces of the US Marine Corps, US Navy and USAAF stopped the onslaught of a Japanese invasion for the first time in the war. This would not have been done without a combined air force called the Cactus Air Force. This informal unit operated from the summer of 1942 to the spring of 1943, when its structure was reorganised as part of the 13th Air Force.

The Marines landed on the island on August 7, 1942. The first US aircraft over Guadalcanal came from the aircraft carriers USS Saratoga and USS Enterprise. They repulsed two waves of G4M Betty bombers escorted by Zeros, inflicting heavy losses on them. The Americans quickly finished the runway and named the base Henderson Field (a USMC officer killed in the Battle of Midway). On August 20, the first Marine aeroplanes were landed there, SBD bombers from VMSB-232 and F4F-4 Wildcat fighters from VMF-223, delivered by the aircraft carrier USS Long Island. P-400 Airacobras from the 67th USAAF Squadron joined them two days later..

Japanese tactics were based on massive air raids, land attacks and shelling from the sea. Cactus Air Force pilots repulsed air raids, supported infantry operations by bombing Japanese positions, and fought enemy supply transports as far as possible. Subsequent USMC and USAAF units arriving on the island wore out quickly, their structure was blurred, and the healthy pilots at the time flew on available planes from all squadrons. The culmination came in a series of air-sea battles on November 11-14, 1942, when Japanese reinforcements being transported to Guadalcanal were repelled. From December 1942, the Japanese began withdrawing from the island. During this period, Cactus Air Force aircraft began actively attacking neighbouring islands and shipping on the approaches to Guadalcanal. In April 1943, the enemy made the last attempt at a massive air offensive on the island, which ended in failure.

The primary Cactus Air Force fighters were the F4F-4 Wildcats and the P-400/P-39D Airacobras. The former was mainly used as an interceptor (it had better performance at higher altitudes), the latter as a ground-attack aircraft (it had poor performance at high altitudes, but the 20mm or 37mm cannon was effective at attacking ground targets). These aircraft were supplemented with P-38 and P-40 machines (November-December 1942) and F4U-1 Corsair (spring 1943). However, the main weight of the fights in the hottest period rested on Wildcats and Airacobras.

Includes

One set of F4F-4 Wildcat plastic sprues

one set P-400/P-39D Airacobra plastic sprues

decal with eight marking options (4 Wildcats and 4 Airacobras)

painting masks for both models

3D printed accessories for F4F-4 Wildcat

3D printed accessories for P-39D/P-400 Airacobra.

F4F-4 Wildcat Accessories

Seat with seatbelts

undercarriage retracting system chains

exhaust tubes

external 0,5-inch gun barrels

bomb racks

two 100 lbs bombs

magneto spark ignition wiring ring

throttle and undercarriage retracting levers

P-39D/P-400 Airacobra Accessories

Seat with seatbelts

two variants of the exhausts

37 mm cannon barrell

20 mm cannon barrell

fuselage machine gun butts with the cocking levers next to the instrument panel

two small levers to the cockpit

wing machine guns barrels

Camouflage and Markings

P-400 Airacobra „white 13” „Hells Bell”, BW151, 67FS/347FG, pilot Lt. Given the urgent need, the decision was made to embark Hurricanes, solid and proven machines. The first land-based "Hurris” took off from the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious, which in the spring of 1940 transported No. 46 Squadron RAF to Norway, but at the time it was a one-off feat. Another attempt to navalise Hurricanes were the so-called CAM ships, i.e. merchant ships equipped with a catapult to launch a fighter in defence of an attacked convoy. After completing the task, the plane was supposed to return to shore or land on water and sink. These machines were designated Sea Hurricane Mk. Ia and entered action in the spring of 1941.

The first true naval fighters were the planes designated Sea Hurricane Mk.Ib. They were equipped properly for carrier borne operations: an arrestor hook, catapult spools, a radio with "Navy" frequencies and instruments reading in knots. They only lacked folding wings. All 340 Mk Ib Sea Hurricanes were converted from used "land" Mk.I Hurricanes. They entered action in July 1941. These planes took part in all the most important Royal Navy operations in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic and Mediterranean for over a year. Their greatest achievements occured during the escort of two very important and very different convoys: PQ-18 in the Arctic (17 kills), and Operation Pedestal to Malta (25 kills), in the summer and fall of 1942.

Kit includes:

Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk.I injected plastic sprues

3D printed set with fuselage bottom, arrestor hook, exhausts (2 options), mirror, headrest, gun camera, oil collector ring, catapult spools and anti-glare exhaust shields.

Decal with 5 marking options

Painting masks for the canopy (kabuki paper)

Correction panels for wing flaps (vinyl)

Marking options:

Sea Hurricane IB, Z7153 “F”, No. 801 Naval Air Squadron, aircraft carrier HMS Eagle, Operation Pedestal, August 1942

Sea Hurricane IB, V6695 “K”, No. 801 Naval Air Squadron, aircraft carrier HMS Eagle, Operation Pedestal, August 1942

Sea Hurricane IB, AF953 “A”, No. 802 Naval Air Squadron, aircraft carrier HMS Avenger, summer 1942

Sea Hurricane IB, V7506 “7T”, No. 885 Naval Air Squadron, aircraft carrier HMS Victorious, Operation Pedestal, August 1942

Sea Hurricane IB, Z4849 “7G”, pilot: Sub/Lt Hugh Popham, No. 880 Naval Air Squadron, Operation Pedestal, aircraft carrier HMS Indomitable, August 1942

Hawker Hurricane Mk IIb trop is an adaptation of the famous fighter-bomber aircraft designed to operate in difficult climates. The first versions of the P-51/P-51A Mustang with the Allison engine proved to be a fighter and reconnaissance machine operating at low altitude, but the lack of a second gear of the engine compressor did not allow for obtaining satisfactory performance at altitudes above 4,500 m. The P-47 fighters could not fly that far, and the P-38s were not available in sufficient numbers. The solution to this problem was to install in the P-51A airframe the British Rolls-Royce Merlin 66 engine (used in the Spitfire IX/XVI) with a two-stage compressor, already produced in the USA under license at the Packard plants under the designation V-1650. The resulting version, the P-51B Mustang, was capable of flying from England to Berlin and solved the problem of escorting daytime bombing raids over Germany. Mass production of the new version of the Mustang was carried out at North American plants in California under the designation P-51B-NA and in Texas under the designation P-51C-NT. The production aircraft differed in minor details introduced with the development of the design, such as an additional fuel tank behind the pilot's cockpit or a stabilizing fin in front of the vertical stabilizer. Over two hundred units were rebuilt into the photoreconnaissance version of the F-6C by installing cameras in the fuselage behind the pilot's cockpit. A total of 3,738 aircraft of versions B and C were produced. As many as 900 of them, under the designation Mustang Mk III, were transferred to the RAF and to the Polish Air Force, RAAF, RCAF and Free French. British modifications included an improved cockpit fairing, the so-called Malcolm Hood (also introduced in the American P-51A and B/C), anti-glare shields behind the exhaust pipes and slats on the dust filter openings. The P-51B/C fighters were armed with 4.5-millimeter (.50 in) machine guns in the wings. They carried 250- and 500-pound bombs on underwing mounts and 75-gallon aluminum and 108-gallon paper fuel tanks. The P-51B/C Mustangs entered service in the European theater of operations in late 1943. They played a key role in breaking the resistance of the German Luftwaffe fighter force in 1944. They also served in the Mediterranean and in the Burma-China theater of operations. In addition to escort duties, the Mustangs performed ground support and V-1 missile countermeasures. From mid-1944 they were gradually replaced by aircraft of the new P-51D/K version.

Produced under license from Boeing. It has been created three years after the death of Zygmunt Puławski, designer of the gull-winged PZL fighters family. The „c” version has been designed by Wsiewołod Jakimiuk as a development of the first production version, the PZL P.11a. Modifications included fuselage front (truss construction instead of stressed-skin), raising of the pilot's seat and lowering the engine, which improved visibility from the cockpit. Power unit was stronger, 600 hp variant of the British Bristol Mercury version, license produced in Warsaw. Armament was strengthened with two additional machine guns in wings and racks for four bombs. Jakimiuk introduced also completely new rounded fin shape and longer streamlined fairing behind pilot's head.

First P.11c from the ordered batch of 150 airframes reached the units in 1935. Air force re-armament process lasted for two years, but in fact was never fully finished due to creation of the new squadrons. As a result, almost all the fighter wings went to the war with PZL P.11 in both „a” and „c” versions and for three squadrons there were no „elevens” at all, so these had to use obsolete PZL P.7a.

In 1939 the „elevens” fought the Germans since 1st September morning till the evacuation forced by the Soviet aggression on 17th September. Despite being already quite obsolete and inferior in speed and armament even to the German bombers, thanks to extraordinary maneuverability and pilot's skills P.11 fighters managed to effectively oppose the enemy, sometimes even to win in dogfights against most dangerous foe, the Messerschmitt. While the losses have been high, 35 airworthy PZL P.11c were evacuated to Romania. These planes have been confiscated by Romanians and joined their PZL P.11b, P.11f and P.24 in combat units and aviation schools. Since 22nd June 1941 the „elevens” marked with yellow crosses took part in the war against Soviet Union, remaining in frontline units till the September 1943!

Today exists only one PZL P.11c example.
